    Rescom Restoration

Whether you have dealt with mold in the past or if this is your first time experiencing the awful pain of finding mold, the first step is thoroughly inspecting certain areas in your home. Mold can be found both inside and outside your home. Black mold or mold typically develops when there is a lot of moisture or even damp environments like wall leaks or near the shower or sink. Check these top five common areas for mold to appear in your home.

    Check your Ventilation System

Because of mold’s tendency to grow where there is moisture, you’ll want to check your ventilation system. Be sure to check all heating vents and air-conditioning vents. Additionally, you’ll want to hire a professional to thoroughly inspect your air ducts, which may also need to be cleaned if mold or mildew is present. Overall, the cause of mold is from the moisture levels. You’ll want to have full control of the levels of moisture present in your household.

    Thoroughly Inspect Your Bathroom

Most moisture can typically be found in your bathroom. Bathrooms can be extremely susceptible to mold growth; however, you can prevent mold from growing in the first place if you check which areas are more prone. You’ll want to inspect your shower and bathtub first thoroughly. Whether you have many family members in your home or live alone, you will want to ensure that after each use, your shower or bathtub is completely dry. This includes any bathtub products such as shampoo bottles or loofahs.

Additionally, other moisture spots can be areas around or under your sink, the tank of the toilet, and around your toilet. Lastly, mold is likely to grow on the ceilings or walls of the bathroom. We highly recommend using a ventilation fan to allow any humidity or steam to dissipate. It is also helpful to use an air-conditioner and keeping your counters and floors completely dry.

    Cracked Ceilings and Drywall

If you see a damp ceiling or cracked ceiling, there might be some mold growth present. Mold grows where there is moisture, so you will typically see these cracks or dampness in patches throughout your ceiling. Visible signs include mold growth being black. Mold can occur on your ceiling for many reasons, including roof leaks or simply humidification of your home.

    Windows

Be sure to check all the windows in your home. You will not only want to check the windows but the window frame as well. If there is moisture or dampness from the rain or indoor humidity from warm air, you’ll want to inspect every window and window frame. If you find mold present, you’ll want to clean the mold by removing the window thoroughly. Additionally, you can prevent mold by keeping a dry area as well as adequately sealing the windows and frame.

    Refrigerator

Although this may not be the first place you check, checking your refrigerator and other areas of the kitchen can be helpful. As we may know, mold is a form of fungus. If you have any food in your fridge that has gone old or expired, it can cause mold. It is recommended to thoroughly wipe down your refrigerator from time to time, as water can collect in certain areas. Another typical spot in your fridge may be the freezer dip tray, and any areas that water or ice can be found.
